ELISE & COLIN'S ENGAGEMENT PARTY

our ceremonious first online post! and what an occasion to post about - our friends Elise and Colin are getting married this winter, and by me onesies (Madison was traipsing through france at the time), I hauled my gear along to the engagement party thinking maybe I'd get a few snaps.

I hopped in a car full of party-goers and we rumbled through country, up the gravel road past a cow paddock into a grassy field and put the car in park. smart sweaters with collars peaking out the top and end-of-summer dresses all around. with bags of ice in tow, we skipped up the stone steps to this magnificent old barn, all fairy-light-lit and smelling sweet like bourbon. american regality at its best. how's this for an engagement party location? "pretty perfect" I thought, reeling in wonder as the theatrically cooperative weather swooned from hazy sun screaming in through the barn door, to mysterious fog rolling down from the meadow, into dark black heavy night. stars like I haven't seen in a while. campfire heat like I haven't felt since.

a word on the photos... some of them are digital! those are marked with an asterisk. the rest, as we usually insist, are film. I used Kodak Portra, ISO 400. a few shots were fired from a disposable fujifilm camera. don't tell anyone.
